Scripture: Mark 11:11–20
This passage presents one of the most intriguing moments in the life of Jesus. Why would He curse a fig tree for not bearing fruit, even though it was not its season? Was Jesus acting in anger, or misusing His power?
Certainly not.
Jesus is our Lord—perfect in all His ways—and His actions always carry deep spiritual meaning. This reminds us that spiritual realities are not always directly aligned with physical circumstances. Life may appear blossoming and beautiful on the outside, yet in the realm of the Spirit, it may reflect dryness or decline.
Therefore, every believer must continually seek God for revelation—understanding Scripture, discerning seasons, and recognizing divine patterns. The essence of this message is to study the underlying actions of Jesus and apply them to our personal walk with God.
We are often likened to trees (John 15), and God expects us to bear fruit.
1. Bear Fruit in All Seasons
God’s expectation for fruitfulness is not limited by seasons.
Jesus’ expectation of the fig tree—despite it not being the season—reflects how God desires us to bear the fruits of righteousness regardless of life’s conditions. At times, your fruit may be internal—growth in character, faith, and love—even when there is no visible platform to display it.
Before becoming that successful, influential, or philanthropic man or woman, become a person whose heart genuinely reflects God’s love. God sees the fruit within long before it manifests outwardly.
2. Expect God’s Visitation
There is a divine visitation appointed for every person.
For some, it is the call to salvation. For others, it is a call to transformation, growth, or even testing. The question is:
Will you recognize His visitation?
Will you respond rightly?
What we do with God’s visitation determines the level of fruit we bear for Him.
3. Do You Have Faith?
When the disciples noticed that the fig tree had withered, Jesus used the moment to teach them about faith.
He emphasized that if they believed, they could speak to mountains and see them moved.
Faith is the currency of progress in God’s Kingdom. It is how we grow, fulfill purpose, and bear lasting fruit. Bearing fruit is not just about outward actions—it is also about what you truly believe.
What have you believed God for?
Are you fully persuaded in your faith?
Do you have the courage to act on that belief?
